Being a moderator over at google is really tough work. When it comes to internet security, that's Google's highest priority. I have to make sure that Google doesn't index any sites that could harm the user, or atleast put a warning on those sites.

It's just a moderator duty. That's what I keep telling my fellow co-workers. They rarely listen, though. Especially not the adsense guys, they're always locked up in their office thinking about how to make more money. Wait, that's "how to make the service better", sorry.

As for the web designers, they don't really have much work around here. They just pop in whenever the guys upstairs decide to add a new service to Google. So you could pretty much only consider them part-time workers.

But as a moderator, I really shouldn't be too busy worrying about others. I'm always busy at my workstation, so there's no time for that. The whole concept of internet security is being held up by me and my fellow moderators. After all, internet security is Google's highest priority, as I said before.

As I was just casually approving websites into the index, I noticed something that I really didn't want to see. Suddenly, thousands of safe sites were being detected as unsafe sites by our security monitor. Whether this was a false alert or if it was actually happening, we didn't have time to tell. I promptly called the maintenance crew who work in the server room.

"We have to shut down the servers, we can't let anyone get infected!" I shouted.

"I'm sorry, but you're not authorized to shut down the servers. Good bye."

There was nothing we could do. Except for starting to remove the sites out of Google's index, which would be a process that would take several hours. I called in some of the other staff for backup, but they had no clue how to remove and add sites to the index, so they just stood around, watching us work. When it was all finally finished, I almost felt like fainting. This was the most intense work that I had done in several months. After this incident, Google designed a special program for us moderators, which allowed us to delete all malicious pages from the directory with one click, in case something like this would happen again.

Which I certainly hope it won't.
